Athletes of the Week - 11/7/2009

Utah Sports Action is pleased to announce the Athletes of the Week from Nov. 2nd – 7th. Again this week we had three athletes that really stood out to help their teams move on to state. Those three athletes are Alex Kuresa from Mountain Crest, Tana Vea from Juan Diego and Alta’s Jordan Brown.

Brown, went off against Cottonwood on Friday. He completed 19 of 24 passes for 416 yards and 3 touchdowns. At one point in the game he completed 16 straight passes. He also finished the game with 10 runs for 49 yards. On the season Brown has completed 148 of 226 passes for 2,507 yards and 20 touchdowns. He has carried the ball 88 times for 346 yards and 4 touchdowns. The defending 5A champions take there hot streak to Rice-Eccles Stadium to face the Bingham Miners on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
Kuresa, has been huge all year for Mountain Crest and last Friday he continued to lead his team to victory over Highland. He completed 23 of 31 passes for 372 yards and 4 touchdowns and 1 rushing touchdown. On the season Kuresa has completed 182 of 266 passes for 3,106 yards and 36 touchdowns. With these stats it’s hard to believe he is only a junior. Mountain Crest will face Timpview at Rice-Eccles Stadium on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Vea, had an outstading game against Cedar City rushing for 135 yards on 13 carries and 2 touchdowns. He continues to be the go to man for the defending 3A champions. On the season Vea has carried the ball 108 times for 795 yards and 13 touchdowns. He is averaging 7.4 yards a carry, look for him to be the difference maker when Juan Diego faces Wasatch at Rice-Eccles Stadium on Friday at 11:00 a.m. Congratulations to all three athletes on outstanding performances.
