Utah Sports Action is pleased to announce the athletes of the week from January 18th through the 23rd.
Jasmine Porter, SR., Layton Christian
Porter is the go-to player for Layton Christian, whenever they need to score they look to her. That makes pretty good sense since she is a 6-2 scoring machine that is leading the state is scoring at 25.50 points per. game. Last week against Liahona, Waterford and Rowland Hall Porter scored 29, 21 and 28 points respectively. She has all the tools on offense and defense to make her a great high school basketball player and a potential stand out in college. She has signed to play for the San Diego State Aztec's. It's pretty hard to find a dominate 6-2 girl basketball player period. But to be 6-2 that can run the floor, handle the ball, finish with both hands, and play shut down defense is unheard of. To understand what I am talking about go to a Layton Christian game and watch number 24 go to work....
Through 14 games this season Porter has scored 357 points an average of 25.50 per. game which is the best in the state. For her career of 74 games she has scored 1211 points averaging 16.36 per. game. 11-3 Layton Christian will face 6-8 North Summit Tuesday 7:00 at home.
Will Whitt, SR., Judge Memorial
Whitt is a dominate big man that gets it done on both ends. On Defense if he isn't blocking shots he is making opponents adjust their shots in the lane. Standing at 6-10 the big man can also run the floor and can finish with both hands. The best aspect of his game is cleaning up the boards and finishing with put back dunks that electrify the crowd. Last week against Ben Lomond he scored 11 points in the win and 18 points against Bear River in the win.
On the season Whitt has scored 239 points in 16 games averaging 14.94 points. The big man has also hit one 3-pointer. If you want to see an all around good basketball player go to a Judge game and look for # 52. 11-5 Judge Memorial will face 8-8 Morgan at home on Friday at 7:00.
