Athletes of the week.
Utah Sports Action is pleased to announce the athletes of the week from February 8th through the 13th.
Neal Monson, Sr., Waterford
Monson has been a force all year for Waterford. With just his height he creates havoc for any team. But with his defense, ability to run the floor and create for himself and teammates he is a nightmare for opposing coaches. On Feb. 9th at Layton Christian he had 20 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal. Against Rowland Hall on Feb. 12th he went off for 26 points, 12 rebounds, had 3 assists and 1 steal.
On the season Monson has scored 385 points in 18 games an average of 21.39 per. game. He is averaging 13.78 rebounds, 2.44 assists and 1.56 steals a game. For his career of 76 games he has scored 1,234 points 16.24 per. game and 248 rebounds 3.26 per. game. He has signed to play for the University of Utah next year so if you don't get the chance to watch him play in high school be sure to watch Monson run with the Utes...
Jennifer Hamson, Sr., Pleasant Grove
Standing at 6-7 the senior center has scored 396 points in 20 games. With her height and ability to score opposing teams have such a hard time guarding Hamson so they tend to double team or play zone but that doesn't seem to work. Last week against Lone Peak she scored 14 points and had 13 rebounds. She also had 27 points and 16 rebounds against American Fork.
After 20 games this season Monson is averaging 19.80 points per. game. For her career of 64 games she has scored 906 points an average of 14.16 per. game. She will be playing for BYU next year after signing with the team in the fall of 09. If you haven't seen a 6-7 woman basketball player that can run, score and play defense get to a Pleasant Grove game and look for # 5.
