Championship Rematch and Championship Revenge
In a battle with the elite, the elite came to play on Friday. The evening pitted the Alta Hawks against the Miners of Bingham, Jordan Brown vs. Harvey Langi. There wasn’t an empty seat to be had let alone much elbow room throughout the crowd as everyone wanted to see the rematch of last year’s title game in which Alta came away victorious.
It was a tale of two halves as Alta came to play early taking a two touchdown lead into halftime. Although both teams were providing big plays (Alta, 76 yard TD pass from Jordan Brown to WR, and Bingham’s Ty Hannay to RB Harvey Langi for a 73 yard TD pass) it was Alta who had the scoreboard to show for it at the half.
Alta QB Jordan Brown displayed why he is considered one of the top quarterbacks in the state by finishing the game going 14-34 for 390 yards and three touchdowns . Throughout the game he connected with Tyron Morris, Zach Listen, and Skylar Mayne for 76, 18, & 61 yards respectively.
The second half came and Bingham rose to the challenge, scoring three touchdowns and a field goal in a span that saw Alta come up empty until just under a minute left in the game as Brown connected Mayne in desperation time to bring the score to 38-34 which is where it would stay after the Hawks failed to convert the extra and on-sides kick.
The second half showed two important factors for the Miners: a consistent quarterback, and a running back the ladder being what any team in the country would want on their team in Langi. Bingham QB Ty Hannay finished the game completing 18 of 20 passes for 200 yards and Langi provided the rest of the explosion catching 3 passes for 111 yards and breaking tackles all night while rushing 22 times for 189 yards.
For an early season game, Alta & Bingham displayed balance on both sides of the ball that will carry them through the season. Expect both teams to continue their seasons in dominating fashions that could very well result in these two meeting again for the state crown in November…. You can also expect Harvey Langi to become a household name throughout the nation by year’s end.
