The Football Factories Battle
In recent years, no teams have put more student-athletes into college programs than Cottonwood and Bingham. These are two programs used to winning and playing in a fashion that attracts the attention from coaches of the likes of Pete Carroll of USC to Les Miles of LSU.
With the obvious standout being Bingham junior runningback Harvey Langi, the Colts have one of their own in runningback Nadan Hosea, although he’s small in stature his look is deceiving. Averaging 92 yards on the ground in his first four games, Hosea has provided stability at a position for the Colts that has seen past alumni running in the backfields of USC an Cal.
With Cottonwood being moved up to the 5A level this season, Bingham has another consistent program that should provide a yearly threat. As the game got under way the teams battled up and down the field countering each other one play after another. There was no seperation from either team by halftime with the exception of the field goal by Braeden Loveless of Bingham that started the scoring in the first quarter. Each team ran for one score and passed for another as they went into the locker rooms at halftime with the feeling that this game could go down to the wire.
…And then the third quarter started! Bingham’s Braden Anderson took the opening kickoff of the second 99 yards to light a fire under the Bingham offense that led to 21 points for the quarter as Langi had a 19 yard touchdown run and Ty Hannay connected with wide receiver Ryland Tausinga for a 49 yard touchdown that made it clear that this was not going to be Cottonwood’s night.
For the game, Hannay and Cottonwood’s Crosby Jensen put up impressive numbers as they passed for 281 and 257 respectively, and both had two touchdown passes. The difference was Hannay had a 70% completion mark while Jensen connected on 61% of his passes. Both respectable totals but Jensen was forced to throw more – 47 times to Hannay’s 20 – while Cottonwood was playing cath-up after their third quarter that they’d much rather forget.
One surprise for the game was Harvey Langi being limited by the Colts to 12 total touches – 11 rushes for 34 yards and one catch for two yards – but Langi made his mark on the scoreboard with two touchdowns that led to Bingham being victorious in the battle of the football factories.
