Pedersen Scorches the Nets in Lone Peak Victory

As the Jordan Beet Diggers took to their home court for the final time this season, they did so with a new weapon... Senior T.J. Hancock.

Formerly the team's manager, Hancock was in full uniform on Tuesday as he was announced to the Jordan crowd. The cheer for Hancock would turn out to be the loudest cheer of the night for Jordan as they took on a young but deep Lone Peak team.

After winning their first nine games of the season, the Lone Peak Knights hit a rough spot as they lost five of their next nine games. Now on a two game winning streak heading into the Jordan game, it looked as the the Knights had righted the ship and were back to their winning ways.

Led by Brady Berry at the start of the night, Berry got all 10 of his points in the opening half. Lone Peak charged out to a 17 to 8 first period lead and took a 28 to 18 lead into the half... then Senior leader, Tannon Pedersen, caught fire.

Pedersen scorched the nets for 22 points on the night, but did not catch fire until the third period of play. Throughout the game Pedersen drained five three-pointers as he had the look in his eyes that nothing was going to stop him. Try as they might, Jordan just had no answers for the sharp-shooter.

One player that Jordan did have the answer for was Lone Peak guard, Nick Emery. Throughout the game Emery struggled to find his groove as he had to play cautiously due to foul trouble. He finished the game with a season low, eight points and one three-pointer, after averaging 18.75 ppg on the year.

The Beet Diggers, led by Kevin Goldsmith (14 points), played fairly even with the Knights after their rough first period, but they could not climb out of the early hole as Lone Peak went on to win 62 to 48 as they closed out the regular season.

Both teams' next games will be upcoming in the 5A playoffs.
