Springville’s season and their undefeated record looked to be hanging by a thread at Salt Lake Community College on Friday in the closing minutes of their 4A semi-final match-up against the feisty Snow Canyon Warriors.
Springville fought their way to a 56 to 47 lead at the end of the third period behind hot shooting and a suffocating defensive effort. Despite Snow Canyon’s struggles for most of the game, the Warriors made a furious fourth period comeback as they scored 22 points in the final period.
Knowing that any possession within the last three minutes of the game could cost them their season, the Warriors kept close enough for Liz Ricks’ opportunity with five seconds left. Snow Canyon took possession after a jump ball and their star, Ricks, fought her way through the lane for the go-ahead basket with only seconds remaining. Just one problem… Springville had Lexi Eaton.
The Brigham Young-bound Eaton had been on fire all night as she had tallied 31 points. As Eaton receive the in-bound pass and drove to the hoop, it was point 33 that sent the Red Devils into the 4A championship game, and the Warriors on a long bus ride home.
Springville would move on to face Timpanogos for the 4A crown.
