Putting the Vikings Above the Rest
Pleasant Grove’s volleyball team stands above the rest of the competition in more ways than one. For starters, the team is 28-3 as it enters the 5A playoffs this week… but I want to talk about another reason, Jen Hamson.
Born to a Brigham Young University legend, Teresa Spalding Hamson – woman’s basketball star in the 80s -, Jen has the natural talent, as well as unheard of height. Standing 6’7”, Hamson is a force on the volleyball court as well as a force on the basketball court and she recently gave her mother’s alma mater a verbal commitment to join them next year.
As Jen heads to the Brigham Young campus next season, she will do so with a tall order, Hamson plans to participate in both the volleyball and basketball programs… but for now there are more important things to worry about such as the Vikings’ high expectations in the 5A volleyball tournament and then she will start her final basketball season in hopes that she will lead Pleasant Grove to a girls’ basketball title as well. It’s a tall order for Hamson before she moves up to Brigham Young, but no one will doubt her natural abilities.
