West Jordan remains focused, beats Bingham in region softball.
The West Jordan Jaguars girls softball team continues to show they are going to battle hard to secure themselves a berth in the State Playoffs.
After a great Swing for Life tournament which saw the Jaguars win all 5 of their games it was time to get back down to business in yet another tough region contest against the reigning back to back state champion Bingham Miners.
After dropping a tough 1 run contest to Taylorsville last week and following that up with a lopsided loss to Riverton, the Jaguars responded with a well played 3-2 victory over a very good Bingham team that refused to go quietly.
Bree Ordiway picked up the win for the Jaguars who moved to 19-6 on the year and 4-3 in the toughest region in the state top to bottom. That 4-3 record is tied with Copper Hills for 3rd with Bingham and Taylorsville tied at the top with 5-2 records. Bingham and Taylorsville square off on Thursday as do the Jags and Copper Hills which will tighten the region up even more.
West Jordan scored all 3 of their runs in the 3rd inning after Ashleigh Lamoreaux smashed a bases loaded double off the fence directly into a stiff south wind that only saw a handfull of balls hit out of the infield all day by either team. Tori Almond suffered her second loss of the year to the Jaguars but threw very effectively despite the loss with 14 strikeouts overall.
Bingham managed to squeeze out two runs along the way with one in the 5th and one in the 6th but struggled to score with runners in scoring position and left several players on board late in the ballgame. The bottom of the 7th inning saw Bingham give one last shot when they had runners on 2nd and 3rd with 2 out and Almond at the plate. Ordiway induced a pop up that ended the scoring threat and the game for the Miners.
With just 3 games left in region play and only 3 teams going to the playoffs, each and every game becomes a crucial contest for the Jaguars as this looks to be a photo finish in this region.
