Mariners take Littlewood with the 67th pick
It was a history making morning for former Pine View shortstop Marcus Littlewood.
Littlewood was picked in the second round of the Major League Baseball draft on Tuesday morning by the Seattle Mariners. He was the 67th overall player selected, making him the earliest position player taken in the MLB draft in state history.
Littlewood worked out for the Mariners in Seattle last week, and obviously made a solid impression on the club. There was talk of Seattle taking Littlewood in the compensatory round, with the 43rd pick on Monday, but the Mariners held off a day.
Littlewood now has to decide whether to sign a pro contract with the Mariners or play in college. He has signed with the University of San Diego.
Littlewood is a two-time winner of the Deseret News' Mr. Baseball award. He is listed at 6-foot-3, 198 pounds. He hit .538 as a senior with 10 doubles, eight home runs and 27 RBIs. He was walked 27 times.
