Bingham 51 Viewmont 0: The Bingham Miners who started the season as the fifth ranked team in the nation opened 2010 in explosive fashion on Friday night with a 51-0 thumping of the Viewmont Vikings. The Miner’s Inoke Taufalele and Josh Smith scored two touchdowns each and Harvey Langi ran 10 times for 89 yards and one touchdown.
Game ball goes to, Inoke Taufalele: Taufalele’s two touchdowns had a special meaning as he was back in action after missing the 2009 season due to an injury.
Mountain Crest 28 Highland 14: Mustang quarterback, Alex Kuresa, put on a show on the ground and through the air as Mountain Crest prevailed in a tough season opening match-up with Highland. Kuresa ran for two touchdowns and threw for another. Highlands Nate Fakahafua led the Rams with 75 yards receiving and a 12 yard touchdown reception.
Game ball goes to, Alex Kuresa: Kuresa’s performance was showcased all of his talents as he threw for 235 yards and ran all over Highland.
Lone Peak 10 Bountiful 7: The Bountiful Braves offense struggled all night against a fierce Lone Peak defense that did not allow a touchdown until the fourth quarter. The Braves were unable to make it passed their own fifty yard line until the third quarter. The Knights’ offense did not fair much better as allthey could muster was a 10 yard score from Chris Nielson and Josh Edwards kicked a 35 yard field goal. The Braves lone score came on an 86 yard pass play from Cam Zollinger to Dillon Salazar.
Game ball goes to, the Lone Peak defense: Yes they did give up an 86 yard touchdown, but they limited the Braves to 201 total yards for the game and gave up only six first downs. The Braves could only manage 41 yards by halftime.
