Friday Night Lights Week 2
Logan 30 Mountain View 24: It was a long night for the Logan Grizzlies and Mountain View Bruins on Friday night but the end result for the Grizzlies made the stormy evening well worth it. Both teams fought through a 30 minute rain delay, and a game that was not settled until two overtimes as Logan finally came out on top in the back-and-forth battle.
Mountain View’s Brandon Bingham tossed a 60 touchdown to Keegan Black and also scored on a touchdown run of 80 yards but it was not enough for the Bruins.
Game ball goes to, DJ Nelson: Nelson threw for two touchdowns of six and 10 yards respectively while also running for two scores. His six yard strike to John Schmidt in the second overtime would prove to be the game clincher.
Davis 49 Clearfield 14: The Davis Darts once again look to be one of the top teams in the state even after losing last years star, Tanner Hinds to graduation. Now that Hinds has moved on, enter Tyrel Day. Day led the attack Davis High as he averaged 11.6 yards per carry and the Darts scored the first six touchdowns of the game. Landon Hart started the scoring with a pick-six that he returned from 27 yards out in the first quarter.
Game ball goes to, Tyrel Day: Day ran for 128 yards on 11 carries and also scored three touchdowns.
Bear River 32 Dixie 21: The Bear River Bears and the Dixie Flyers traded scoring streaks back and forth right up until just before the end of the first half on Friday night.
Bear River started the scoring with a four yard Payton Wells run followed by a 25 yard Tayton Rose touchdown pass to Drake Walker. However, they failed to make both two-point conversion attempts. Trailing 12 to 0, Dixie soon joined the scoring fest as they jumped out to a two point lead after a Blake Barney three yard score and a 92 yard touchdown pass from Barney to Wyatt Gatchell. The Bears would fight back to take to lead at halftime, 18 to 14, but once again they failed on their two-point conversion.Bear River would go on to seal the victory with a 79 yard punt returned for a touchdown by AJ Sanchez.
Game ball goes to, AJ Sanchez: Yes it could have easily gone to Drayton Rose for his three touchdown passes, but nothing takes the wind out of a team’s sails like a 79 yard punt return in the fourth quarter.
